On September 29, a statement by the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies was released. It talks about tougher penalties for crimes related to the use of cryptocurrencies. The bill introduces an increase in fines from one-third to two-thirds of the amount of money laundered.

In addition, it is proposed to increase the minimum prison sentence from three to four years, and the maximum from 10 to 16 years in addition to the fine.

The bill will help protect Brazilians from cryptocurrency fraud schemes. About 300,000 people have already been affected by cryptocurrency scams in Rio de Janeiro. Other aspects of the bill include the regulation of trade, storage, exchange of fiat money and payments.
