<\/a>Japan Recognizes Bitcoin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

EcoCoins<\/a> recently posted an interesting update indicating that Japan may soon be recognizing Bitcoin as a legal payment method.\u00a0 The Philippines recently did this on an official basis and Bitcoin is already legal in most countries in the world.\u00a0 Users of Bitcoin hope that these developments won\u2019t destroy the privacy associated with doing business in Bitcoin.\u00a0 However, no one wants Bitcoin to become the preferred means of moving funds among terrorist and other similarly repugnant organizations.\u00a0 Here is the text of the EcoCoins <\/a>blog entry:<\/p>\n

Bitcoin is already legal in the vast majority of countries around the world. However, only a few governments have recognized the legal status of bitcoin in a particular regulatory manner. Worldwide society demands the balance between privacy of Bitcoin and regulations to prevent financing of illegal operations and terrorism in particular. Philippines recently agreed bitcoin as a legal remittance method. It can be used within the country to move money from one place to another. As a result, Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policies for bitcoin exchanges, and service providers tightened in the Philippines.<\/p>\n

On December 17, local publications including the Japan Times revealed that the country\u2019s Financial System Council proposed a bill which called for the recognition of bitcoin as a legal payment method and requires bitcoin exchanges to register with the country\u2019s financial regulator the Financial Services Agency. Starts from April 1st, 2017 Bitcoin is a legal payment method, not a currency.<\/p>\n

According to a Fuji Chimera Research Institute study, roughly $1.7 billion of crypto-currency was in circulation throughout Japan in 2015, and this number is expected to increase to nearly $9 billion by 2020, prompting the accommodative regulatory measure.<\/p>\n
