Source: Cointelegraph\/<\/em><em>TradingView<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Downside pressure stemming from concerns over US government bonds continued, with the US-Iran war also at the forefront of traders\u2019 minds.<\/p>\n<p>Iran appeared to be pressing ahead with a toll system for transit through the Strait of Hormuz \u2014\u00a0the epicenter of a global oil-supply squeeze \u2014 while keeping US traffic out.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by trading resource The Kobeissi Letter among others, Hormuz would reportedly \u201cremain closed to the operators of Project Freedom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, analysis from Mosaic Asset Company spelled out the problems of the current geopolitical and macroeconomic climate for risk assets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe prospect for another inflation wave is lining up with similarities to the surge in price levels into mid-2022,\u201d it wrote in its latest Mosaic Chart Alerts blog post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDisrupted supply chains from last year\u2019s trade war, impact of war on energy markets, and stimulus via large federal budget deficits are coming together at the same time.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-images.ctmedia.io\/media\/content\/usoil2026-05-1618-43-32.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"896\" height=\"646\" data-original=\"https:\/\/s3-images.ctmedia.io\/media\/content\/usoil2026-05-1618-43-32.png\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><em>CFDs on US WTI crude oil one-hour chart. Source: Cointelegraph\/TradingView<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WTI crude oil finished the week trading above $100 per barrel.<\/p>\n<h2>Bitcoin price action teases &#8220;bear trap&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>Among Bitcoin traders, there were ongoing mixed feelings about the bears\u2019 strength below $80,000.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>Bitcoin price history suggests 77% odds of new all-time high within a year<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last couple of days, the price has been going down slightly, while the open interest has climbed up. But things become interesting if we correlate this with Funding Rates, which have flipped negative,\u201d X trading account Cryptic Trades wrote on X.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis shows us that bears are DOUBLING DOWN right now and betting on a breakdown. It also shows that even though the market structure remains intact, bears are shorting as if a breakdown already happened.
