Source: Cointelegraph\/TradingView<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Bitcoin whales pile on shorts again<\/h2>\n<p>Data from\u00a0Cointelegraph Markets Pro\u00a0and\u00a0TradingView\u00a0showed BTC price action tapping but failing to hold $110,000.<\/p>\n<p>Acting in an increasingly narrow range, BTC\/USD offered little cause for optimism ahead of some classic volatility triggers.<\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump was scheduled to make an announcement from the White House at 3 pm Eastern Time, and large-volume Bitcoin traders were betting on bad news.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin OG Kyle Chasse described one whale\u2019s 40X leveraged BTC short as \u201cinsane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe see quite a big liquidation cluster just above $106k,\u201d he added in a\u00a0further post\u00a0on X.<\/p>\n<p>An accompanying chart showed liquidation levels on exchange order books from monitoring resource\u00a0CoinGlass, with these often acting as near-term price magnets.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/us.best-server.work\/~\/uv\/hvtrs8%2F-s1.aoknveneercpj.aoo%2Fwpnocdq%2F0005%2F12%2F21%3Ba3173%2F4dd%3A-5d38%2Fb396-02a43175ddfc\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption><em>BTC liquidation heatmap. The phenomenon originally surfaced on Oct. 10, when BTC\/USDT fell from all-time highs to a\u00a0low of $102,000\u00a0on Binance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Concentrating on overall trader behavior, onchain analytics platform Glassnode revealed \u201cdefensive\u201d positioning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNet-premium flows reveal concentrated selling across the $109K\u2013$115K range, indicating that recent moves higher are being used to hedge,\u201d it\u00a0reported\u00a0on Bitcoin options markets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\"><p>\u201cThis suggests traders are positioning defensively into strength while the market consolidates.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/us.best-server.work\/~\/uv\/hvtrs8%2F-s1.aoknveneercpj.aoo%2Fwpnocdq%2F0005%2F12%2F21%3Ba3175%2Ff%3B70-523a%2Fa0eg-3a%602c44659g5\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption><em>Bitcoin options net premium strike heatmap. M2 supply boom sparks COVID-19 comparisons<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Trader Roman, concerned about a\u00a0lack of trading volume\u00a0even at the all-time highs, said that the situation would turn \u201cget ugly fast\u201d for Bitcoin below $107,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far we\u2019ve held but I wanted to show that it\u2019s not just a horizontal support, it\u2019s a diagonal support for a near year and a half long uptrend,\u201d he\u00a0told\u00a0X followers about the weekly chart.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/us.best-server.work\/~\/uv\/hvtrs8%2F-s1.aoknveneercpj.aoo%2Fwpnocdq%2F0005%2F12%2F21%3Ba3176%2Fc40%60-5dc3%2F9cf6-1f%3A8ddc07e51\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption><em>BTC\/USD one-week chart. If price can break and hold above that point, we can start looking for higher,\u201d he\u00a0wrote\u00a0on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote data-ct-non-breakable=\"undefined\"><p>\u201cIt&#8217;s good that the $107K level held during all this weakness also from stocks yesterday.
