{"id":53445,"date":"2025-05-28T03:57:49","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T03:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emilynews.com\/blog\/?p=53445"},"modified":"2025-05-28T03:57:50","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T03:57:50","slug":"jack-dorseys-block-to-bring-bitcoin-payments-to-square-by-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emilynews.com\/blog\/?p=53445","title":{"rendered":"Jack Dorsey\u2019s Block to bring Bitcoin payments to Square by 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Block, Inc. is rolling out Bitcoin payments on Square, and merchants will be able to hold the Bitcoin, or auto-convert it to fiat in real-time.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Dorsey\u2019s financial services firm Block, Inc. will launch Bitcoin payments on Square, its payments processing arm, with a rollout to begin later this year before a full launch in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The company announced the plan at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas on May 27, where Block demonstrated the feature at the BTC Inc. merchandise store.<\/p>\n<p>Merchants will be able to accept Bitcoin payments through existing Square hardware using the Lightning Network, Bitcoin\u2019s faster, lower-cost layer-2 scaling network.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMerchants can choose to hold the Bitcoin, or auto-convert it to fiat in real-time,\u201d Dorsey said on X.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company said it expects to start rolling out in the second half of 2025, reaching all eligible Square sellers by 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The move builds on Square\u2019s existing Bitcoin Conversions feature that allows merchants to automatically convert sales to BTC.
