{"id":53384,"date":"2025-05-08T05:49:46","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T05:49:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emilynews.com\/blog\/?p=53384"},"modified":"2025-05-08T05:49:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T05:49:47","slug":"bitcoin-returns-to-98k-as-fed-holds-rates-steady-despite-trumps-demand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emilynews.com\/blog\/?p=53384","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin returns to $98K as Fed holds rates steady despite Trump\u2019s demand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bitcoin\u2019s price wobbled after the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged but bounced back and reclaimed $98,000 shortly after.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin has reclaimed $98,000 for the first time in almost three months after the US Federal Reserve said it would keep interest rates the same for another month.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed\u2019s decision to keep interest rates unchanged comes despite mounting pressure from US President Donald Trump, who just weeks ago\u00a0threatened to fire Fed chair Jerome Powell for being\u00a0\u201ctoo late\u201d in cutting rates.<\/p>\n<h2>Fed cites higher unemployment, inflation risk<\/h2>\n<p>Powell\u00a0said\u00a0on May 7 that the Federal Reserve rate-setting committee held rates in the 4.25% to 4.50% range due to the rising risks of higher unemployment and higher inflation.<\/p>\n<p>He added inflation has \u201ccome down a great deal but has been running above our 2% longer objective.\u201d Powell said surveys in households and businesses showed a \u201csharp decline in sentiment\u201d mainly due to concerns over Trump\u2019s trade policy.<\/p>\n<p>However, Powell said that \u201cdespite heightened uncertainty, the economy is still in a solid position.\u201d In the days leading up to the announcement, data from CME Group\u2019s\u00a0FedWatch Tool\u00a0indicated\u00a0that the futures market expected\u00a0minimal odds of a rate cut.<\/p>\n<p>Powell said the unemployment rate remains low, and the labor market is \u201cat or near maximum employment.\u201d The market\u00a0expects the Fed to drop the Fed funds rate to 3.6% by the end of 2025<button class=\"flex absolute items-center cursor-pointer close-ad mix-blend-luminosity text-custom-gray-8 close-ad_Eiuhk top-1 right-1\" data-testid=\"close-ad-button\"><\/button><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2025-05\/0196adbe-22ba-71ee-a8da-b829b78176d6\" alt=\"Cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin Price, Markets\" \/><figcaption><em>Bitcoin fell below $96,000 before retracing back above $98,000 just hours later on May 7.
