{"id":53013,"date":"2025-02-06T03:55:45","date_gmt":"2025-02-06T03:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emilynews.com\/blog\/?p=53013"},"modified":"2025-02-06T03:55:46","modified_gmt":"2025-02-06T03:55:46","slug":"standard-chartereds-500000-bitcoin-target-isnt-just-hopium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emilynews.com\/blog\/?p=53013","title":{"rendered":"Standard Chartered\u2019s $500,000 Bitcoin target isn\u2019t just \u2018hopium\u2019?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"bg-gray-60 p-5 dark:bg-primary-700\">\n<div class=\"space-y-5\">\n<ul class=\"list-outside pl-8\">\n<li>More access will drive prices, said Standard Chartered.<\/li>\n<li>Less volatility as the ETF market matures will be a second factor, said head of digital asset research Geoffrey Kendrick.<\/li>\n<li>The bank&#8217;s pre-ETF launch prediction was so close that they could nail another one, said ETF expert Eric Balchunas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">Standard Chartered has a daring prediction for Bitcoin: half a million per coin by the end of Donald Trump\u2019s second term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">How will it get there so soon?<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">More capital flowing into exchange-traded funds, and a friendlier regulatory environment, Geoffrey Kendrick, head of digital assets research at Standard Chartered, said in a note to clients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">\u201cInvestor access will be the core driver of longer-term Bitcoin price appreciation,\u201d wrote Kendrick, who said more participation has already begun.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">He pointed out several bullish moves from Trump, including a potential digital asset stockpile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">The second leg to Bitcoin\u2019s price rise will be declining volatility as ETF markets mature.<\/p>\n<h2>Mainlining hopium<\/h2>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">A previous Standard Chartered forecast means Bloomberg ETF expert Eric Balchunas is giving its $500,000 price target the benefit of the doubt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">\u201cStandard Chartered is mainlining the hopium again, says Bitcoin will hit $500k by end of Trump term,\u201d Balchunas\u00a0wrote\u00a0on X. \u201cTo be fair, though, their crazy bitcoin ETF flow prediction was actually closer than we were, so who knows!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">In January 2024, just days before the Bitcoin ETF launched, Standard Chartered\u00a0predicted\u00a0that the new asset would reach between $50 billion and $100 billion in inflows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">Standard Chartered\u2019s Kendrick noted that the ETFs posted $39 billion in total net inflows.<\/p>\n<h2>BlackRock, Pantera<\/h2>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">Half a million dollars per coin is\u00a0Standard Chartered\u2019s\u00a0most bullish prediction yet \u2014 highlighting optimism surrounding the ETF and Trump combination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">BlackRock\u2019s Larry Fink recently\u00a0touted\u00a0a $700,000 price for Bitcoin, and Pantera Capital CEO Dan Morehead\u00a0sees it topping\u00a0$740,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">Bitcoin ETFs closed out 2024 notching the\u00a0best debut\u00a0for an ETF in history.<\/p>\n<h2>Volatility matters<\/h2>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">Kendrick predicts that rocky market swings will die down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">\u201cAs the ETF market matures by the end of 2025, we expect volatility to decline,\u201d Kendrick wrote. Meanwhile, a buildout of the derivatives market \u2014 such as\u00a0options\u00a0trading \u2014 should add also to more stable prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">\u201cWith volatility dropping Bitcoin\u2019s share of an optimised two-asset portfolio with gold increases,\u201d Kendrick said.<\/p>\n<h2>Trump effect<\/h2>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">Kendrick also pointed out Trump\u2019s \u201cimportant steps\u201d to improve crypto\u2019s standing in the US \u2014 including the recent repeal of SAB 121, a custody policy\u00a0hated\u00a0by the industry, and a potential digital asset stockpile that could trigger more Bitcoin purchases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"puppeteer-article-text-type-element\">Yesterday, Trump\u2019s crypto and AI czar, David Sacks,\u00a0vowed\u00a0regulatory clarity for the industry, while Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner Hester Peirce said her week-old \u201ccrypto task force\u201d will consider allowing initial coin offerings, or ICOs.<\/p>\n<h2>Market movers<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"\">\n<li>Bitcoin is down 1.5% in the past 24 hours to $97,577.<\/li>\n<li>Ethereum is down 2.2% over the same period to $2,741.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Check <span style=\"background: #FDFBAC; padding: 1px 4px;\">other news for today<\/span> and Please stand by..<\/p>\n<p>*********************************<\/p>\n<p>If one of the paying programs on our Monitor appeals to you, please support <em>EmilyNews<\/em> by registering for it on our website.
