Retail investors are \u2018in a turmoil\u2019 amid market volatility<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

<\/b>Retail investors that played a significant role in the stock market\u2019s overall performance during the first two years of the pandemic are now witnessing the pitfalls of market volatility, former TD Ameritrade Chairman and CEO and Coastal Carolina University Executive Director of Football Joe Moglia told Yahoo Finance Live in a recent segment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the typical retail investor that is not disciplined, is not thinking strategically. I think they’re in a turmoil,\u201d he said. \u201cThey’re concerned. I think they have some sort \u2014 I think they have anxiety.\u201d<\/p>\n

This January was the stock market\u2019s worst since the financial crisis of 2008 \u2014 and that was before Russia – Ukraine conflict, further threatened to disrupt supply chains and drive inflation up even higher than any other time in recent history.<\/p>\n

Retail investors bought the January dip, but risk assets, such as tech companies and other growth stocks, have performed poorly since the invasion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The tightening begins this week<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

<\/b>On Wednesday the Federal Reserve will likely take the first steps in paring back its stimulus \u2014 by raising interest rates for the first time since the global pandemic began.<\/p>\n

High inflation makes it a near certainty that the central bank will move to \u201ctighten\u201d its policies of printing money, by raising the target federal funds rate (the benchmark for short-term interest rates) by 0.25%.<\/p>\n

The uncertainty for Fed policy lies in how aggressive the central bank will move after the first interest rate increase. Concerns are building that the Fed may not be able to credibly bring inflation back down to its 2% level. Prices rose by 7.9% on a year-over-year basis in February, a 40-year high.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
